HISTORY

The first Centenary of the Port Board of Works and of the International Conference of Algeciras was commemorated in 2006, two great events that occurred in the city in 1906.

The Port of Algeciras Bay is a young and dynamic port with little more than a century, in the heat of its development and growth. In these 100 years, the development of the port facilities and its constant growth in traffic, have consolidated it as the leader of the Spanish port system and one of the main ports within the European Union.

Its importance began in 1964 coinciding with the industrial takeoff of the area with the implantation of an industrial complex, whose maximum examples were CEPSA Refinery CEPSA and ACERINOX Steel Mill.

Until that moment, the main activities of both, the Port and the Bay of Algeciras had been centered in the passenger traffic in the Straits and in the fishing.

At present, the Port of Algeciras Bay is a strategic port in the international trade, a strategic call in the transit between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic
